How to Force Close an Apple TV App Using the App Switcher

You may launch the App Switcher and shut the app from there if you want to leave an app that isn’t responding as anticipated or if you want to stop an app completely instead of merely exiting it. How to do it:

  • To access the home screen, press the TV button twice.
  • You can locate the app you want to shut by using your Clickpad to navigate through all of the open applications until you find it.
  • Swipe up across the Clickpad in order to quit the application you have chosen.
  • You may go back to the Home screen by clicking the Back button again.

How to Restart Your Apple TV

It is possible that you may need to restart your Apple TV if you are unable to access the App Switcher or if the application will not exit. If you want to reactivate your Apple TV, try turning it off, then pressing the Power button on your Siri Remote twice in quick succession. The Settings app on your iOS device also allows you to reset your Apple TV:

  • Launch the app that controls settings.
  • Select System.
  • Click Restart. Make sure that you DO NOT hit the Reset button, since doing so will remove all of your applications and data from your device.

If your Apple TV is fully frozen and you are unable to get it to restart, you may restart it by unplugging your TV, waiting a few seconds, and then plugging it back in. It’s possible that this will address any problems you’ve been experiencing with applications that won’t cooperate.
