Can You Connect Nintendo Switch To Hotel WiFi

Connecting to public Wi-Fi, a mobile hotspot, or even the hotel’s Wi-Fi connection is quite simple when you do so using a conventional web browser or personal computer; but, doing so through a gaming system may be a royal pain in the you-know-what. Even the best hotels may be complicated to use because of the protection of IP addresses and other security procedures that are necessary to operate a secure hotel wifi network. Many hotels are to blame for having a wi-fi signal that is too weak to be reliable.

There has been a recent uptick in the number of visitors who bring their own gaming consoles on vacation; however, this trend may cause a lot of hassle for front desk staff. Setting up a PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, or Xbox on a new WiFi network, particularly one that requires a password, is never as simple as it would seem at first glance. However, considering the prevalence of video game consoles among travellers in the Millennial and Gen Z generations, this is a procedure that your crew will need to become proficient in to match the expectations of your guests.

You have most likely seen the relevant posts on Reddit and Gamespot, but because they may be difficult to navigate, we have combined all of the most important information into a single article for your convenience.

This tutorial will walk you through connecting a Nintendo Switch to the WiFi at a hotel (or, if that fails, an alternative internet connection). It is estimated that in March of 2020 in the United States, Nintendo Switch sold more than twice the amount of consoles than it did in March of 2019, in part owing to the popularity of the game Animal Crossings. Check out the conclusion of this article for further information about Animal Crossings as well as suggestions for games to play. What Do You Need to Get Your Switch Connected?

Watch this video if you’re not acquainted with the Nintendo Switch; it will show you how to set up a Switch system for the first time. Before attempting to connect to your hotel’s WiFi, check to see that your visitor has all of the necessary components with them.

Most gamers know to travel with these items, but make sure to double-check before you get started. You will need:

  • HDMI cable
  • AC Adapter
  • Console
  • Controller
  • WiFi username and password

Because many hotels maintain gaming equipment on site, you should be able to communicate with the front desk of your hotel through one of these suggested ways in order to obtain a piece of equipment that you do not have if you do not already have it:

Steps to Connect to Hotel WiFi on a Switch

You may not have had the opportunity to question the front desk staff about connecting your device to the in-room entertainment system and WiFi if the hotel used a contactless check-in procedure instead of the traditional method. The Nintendo Switch has a rather involved procedure to follow in order to connect to a WiFi network. You may find the following video useful in assisting your visitor in visualising the stages that you will be describing to them:

Make an effort to follow these steps:

  • To change your settings, go to “Settings” on the main menu.
  • Select “Internet” from the menu on the left side of the “Settings” screen, and then go to the “Internet settings” page.
  • The Switch will immediately begin looking for a network to connect to.
  • The network for your hotel ought should show up. Simply clicking on the network will cause the Switch to start the process of registering you.
  • The network will ask for registration and will need a password to access it. Tap the “Next” button.

  • A new browser tab or window will appear for the visitor, in which they may enter their login information.
  • After the visitor has sent in the password, the WiFi connection will be established.

Troubleshooting Nintendo Switch on WiFi

There have been reports from users on Reddit and YouTube that they are unable to access to the login page (the step after you hit next to register). One manager at a hotel front desk remarked that internet connections in hotels are much slower. The workaround he implemented consisted of preventing the Switch from entering sleep mode and leaving it in that state while it attempted to connect: “After a time, the login window does pop-up. I checked it out for myself, and it does work; it keeps attempting to connect for fifteen to twenty minutes, but in the end the window does appear so that you can use the login credentials provided by your hotel or whatever.”

If your guest is still struggling to connect, try one of these options.

Connect Through a Different Browser Page

Alternately, if the Switch gets stuck while attempting to load the registration or login page, you may sometimes get the page to load by switching to a new website and trying to visit it again. For example, if you attempt to visit Facebook while connected to the hotel’s WiFi, you will be sent to the login page. You will be able to game as soon as you have checked in since this will link you to the internet. Here is how to initiate a redirect to the page where you may log in.

Tell your visitor to go into user settings, then social media settings, and finally profile settings. You will be sent to a browser when you click on this. After then, there is a good chance that the security system at your hotel will reroute the visitor to the login page. From that point on, continue in the same manner.

Connect Through a Laptop

One person on Reddit was able to connect to WiFi on the site using their laptop successfully. The following is what they did:

  • Connect the Laptop to the WiFi Network.
  • Make your laptop a part of an ad hoc network by doing so.
  • Connect to the ad hoc network that was just formed on your switch.
  • You now have complete internet access on your Switch, but at a somewhat slower speed than usual owing to the various connections.
  • Do not shut off your laptop or turn off the power.

Use a Third-Party Hotspot

Through the use of a Windows laptop and the software tool known as Connectify Hotspot, you may connect to a WiFi network. This is not the ideal solution, since a visitor has to already have Connectify installed on their laptop in order to use it. However, Connectify does support Nintendo Switch and does not cost anything. Have a look at this tutorial if you want to learn more about integrating Connectify with Switch.
